Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters

Lodestar is designed to help people discover and understand the outdoors—not to build advertising profiles.

We aim to collect only the information reasonably needed to operate and secure our services, communicate with people who ask to hear from us, improve what we build, and support our relationships with users and partners.

We do not sell personal information, and we strive to collect less rather than more.

This Privacy Policy explains how Lodestar Hub, Inc. (“Lodestar,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information through lodestarhub.com and related websites, applications, beta experiences, and partner services that link to this policy (collectively, the “Services”).

Some Lodestar products or partner services may provide supplemental privacy notices where their data practices differ from those described here.

When you use the Services, we may automatically collect limited technical and usage information, such as:

  • IP address;

We do not use these technologies to sell personal information or track people across unrelated websites for targeted advertising.

More information appears in the Cookies section of our Terms of Use & Cookies.

Information from third parties

We may receive information from:

  • service providers that help us operate the Services;
  • authentication or identity providers;
  • partner organizations;
  • public agencies and public data sources;
  • analytics, security, and fraud-prevention providers; and
  • social or professional platforms when you interact with Lodestar through those services.

The information we receive depends on the third party, your relationship with that party, and any permissions you provide.

2. How We Use Information

We may use personal information to:

  • provide, operate, maintain, and secure the Services;
  • authenticate users and manage Partner Portal access;
  • evaluate and respond to beta requests;
  • communicate about accounts, requests, partnerships, or service updates;
  • provide support and respond to questions;
  • personalize basic preferences and experiences;
  • understand usage and improve content, performance, and functionality;
  • detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, or technical problems;
  • enforce our terms and agreements;
  • comply with legal obligations; and
  • establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

We may aggregate or de-identify information so it can no longer reasonably identify an individual. We may use that information for research, analytics, planning, and service improvement.

3. What We Do Not Do

Lodestar does not:

  • sell personal information for money;
  • use personal information to build third-party advertising profiles;
  • share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; or
  • use health, fitness, or precise-location information for advertising.

If these practices change, we will update this policy and provide any choices required by law.

4. How We Disclose Information

We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances.

Service providers

We may provide information to vendors that perform services on our behalf, such as:

  • cloud hosting and infrastructure;
  • database and storage services;
  • email delivery;
  • authentication and security;
  • website analytics;
  • error monitoring;
  • customer support; and
  • professional services.

These providers may access information only as reasonably necessary to perform services for Lodestar and are expected to protect it appropriately.

Partner organizations

When you interact with a partner-specific feature, request information involving a partner, or act on behalf of a partner organization, we may disclose relevant information to that organization as reasonably necessary to provide the requested service or administer the relationship.

We will not treat a general visit to a public partner page as permission to disclose your identity to that partner.

Legal and safety reasons

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to:

  • comply with law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request;
  • protect the rights, safety, and security of Lodestar, our users, partners, or others;
  • investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents; or
  • enforce agreements and policies.

Business transactions

Information may be disclosed or transferred in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

With your direction or consent

We may disclose information when you direct us to do so or provide consent.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to:

  • provide and secure the Services;
  • maintain account and partner records;
  • comply with legal, tax, accounting, or reporting obligations;
  • resolve disputes; and
  • enforce agreements.

Retention periods vary according to the type of information, the reason it was collected, and applicable legal requirements.

When information is no longer needed, we may delete, anonymize, or securely isolate it.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information.

No system or transmission method is completely secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for protecting your credentials and should notify us promptly if you believe an account has been compromised.

7. Your Choices and Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • request access to personal information we hold about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of information;
  • request a portable copy of certain information;
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • appeal a decision concerning a privacy request; and
  • opt out of certain disclosures or uses where applicable.

You may also:

  • unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in the message;
  • change cookie settings through your browser or any preference control we provide; and
  • contact us to update account information.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. We may also deny or limit a request where permitted by law.

Lodestar does not discriminate against people for exercising applicable privacy rights.

Global Privacy Control

Where required by applicable law, we will treat a recognized Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out of covered sale or sharing activity.

Because Lodestar does not currently sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, such a signal should not materially change your experience.

8. Children’s Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Parents or guardians who believe a child has provided personal information may contact us.

9. Location, Outdoor, Health, and Fitness Information

Certain Lodestar applications or future features may use location, route, outdoor-activity, health, or fitness information when you choose to enable those features.

Where applicable:

  • we will request platform or device permissions;
  • we will use the information to provide the feature you request;
  • we will provide supplemental disclosures when needed; and
  • we will not use health, fitness, or precise-location information for advertising.

Access to data from services such as Apple Health, Google Health Connect, Garmin, or other connected platforms will be subject to the permissions you grant and any additional platform requirements.

10. International Users

Lodestar is based in the United States.

If you access the Services from another country, your information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States or other locations where Lodestar or its service providers operate.

Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

11. Third-Party Sites and Services

The Services may link to third-party websites, agencies, partners, mapping services, social platforms, and other services that Lodestar does not control.

This Privacy Policy does not govern those third parties. Review their privacy notices before providing information to them.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our Services and practices evolve.

We will revise the “Last updated” date when changes are made. When required, we will provide additional notice of material changes.
